Data Analyst - Parts Quality and Rework - Tesla

Fremont, California


Since this position will involve both data analytics and project management to achieve quantifiable improvements, Tesla quality team is seeking a key individual who:

  • Understands the reporting needs and challenges, and can work on creating solution for the business users;
  • Understands best practices while monitoring current system and gathering requirements for future developments in quality systems;
  • Understands prioritization of tasks based on end user impact; severity and resources;
  • Quality driven professional.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to manage and communicate the health and integrity of the data and systems.


Data Analytics Responsibilities

  • Monitor trends; provide accurate, insightful analysis and deliver reports on quality performance metrics on a periodic basis (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly updates, etc.), as well as those requested on an ad-hoc basis;
  • Interact with multiple departments, and often at the highest level, to gather reporting and visualization requirements to create reports/dashboards and simplify end user interaction
  • Standardizing the analytics framework for quality organization across Tesla;
  • Capable of handling end user training to better use the existing Business Intelligence infrastructure;
  • Work with Core IT and Architect to leverage the existing Business Intelligence tools and bring value to business


System Development Responsibilities

  • Translate business process needs into software design requirements;
  • Provide business context for the effort;
  • Collaborate closely with the software development team to define functional and timeline requirements of software tools
  • Prioritize multiple projects across all departments and systems and provide status updates to stakeholders;
  • Proactively identify improvement opportunities (potential gaps between process and system) across all business functions, developing tools that allow for visibility into process bottlenecks and inconsistencies;
  • Develop test cases and perform User acceptance testing (UAT);
  • Manage user manual/ information on how to use the system;
  • Perform training to various functions on new roll outs and functionality changes;
  • Business point of contact for users for day to day queries and adoption;
  • Monitor health of system and data quality


Functional/Technical Skill Requirements

(Areas of expertise looked at as core strengths)

  • BS or higher degree in Engineering, Statistics, or Operations Research. (Preferred Computer Science, Operations Research, Electrical Engineering).
  • 3-5+ years of experience as a data analyst at a company with global operations
  • Expertise in using Analytics Reporting and Visualization tools: Tableau, QlikView, PowerBI
  • Fluent understanding of Statistics, Time Series and Machine Learning algorithms.
  • Python Scripting
  • Proficient in writing SQL queries and fetching information from Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL databases
  • Proficient in ISO 9001, TS 16949 and other automotive standards.
  • Understanding of various approaches to Root Cause Investigations methodologies like 8D, Kepnor Tregoe, Ishikawa diagrams, etc.
  • Business Intelligence
  • Business Objects Designer
  • Exposed to Database Analytical Functions, In-line Queries, Sub-Queries, Aggregate functions
  • Working Knowledge of ETL
  • Directly applicable experience: Manufacturing operational reporting, operational analysis

  • Data warehousing experience
  • Strong critical thinking and communication skills
  • Understand Star and Snow Flake schema
  • Conversant with Dimensional Modeling
  • Background in Data Modeling preferred
