Lead Data Scientist - Best Buy

Best Buy has the third largest eCommerce website in terms of traffic. We can certainly leverage a large pool of data. We are building a cutting edge product discovery engine that utilizes customer signals as they come in. We need your help!

The Lead Data Scientist will work on building the next generation of eCommerce technologies at Best Buy. You will have the opportunity to build state of the art search and recommendation algorithms that power Best Buy's eCommerce that generates billions of dollars of revenue per year. If you are eager to put your algorithm to test in front of customers and iterate based what happens in the real world, then this is your ideal job.

  • Leading data science projects that drives benefits measured in millions of dollars
  • Leading other data scientists and data engineers
  • Gathering and analyzing data, identifying key prediction/classification problems, devising solutions and building prototypes;
  • Formulating machine learning approaches while paying attention to business metrics, designing features from the rich data available from many sources, training, evaluating, and deploying models;
  • Researching and implementing methodologies to measure the impact of the technologies;
  • Initiating and proposing unique and promising modeling projects, developing new and innovative algorithms and technologies.
  • Developing high-performance algorithms for precision targeting, testing and implementing these algorithms; Interacting with other teams to define interfaces and understanding and resolving dependencies;

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience with Data Analysis, Predictive Analytics, or Machine Learning
  • At least 2 year or experience with at least one programming language, such as Java or Python, etc.
  • At least 2 year of experience with at least one statistics/data analysis package, such as Python or R
  • At least 1 year of experience in an ecommerce environment

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Math or related quantitative field
  • Experience of leading and managing teams
  • Experience with search or recommender systems, information retrieval, graph analysis, statistical modeling, neural network, and natural language processing
  • Experience with large-scale data analysis and building high-performance computational software
  • Experience with e-Commerce and analyzing clickstream data
  • Experience with Apache Beam, Solr, Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services
  • Proficiency in at least one statistics/data analysis package, such as Python or R
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java or Python, etc.
  • Experience working with real-world noisy data
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Strong communication and data presentation skills; ability to communicate with data-driven stories
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies, tools and techniques
  • Flexible and responsive; able to perform in a fast paced, dynamic work environment and meet aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical team members
