Project Manager, Decisions Sciences -Mazda

The Project Manager, Decision Sciences will have primary responsibility for data governance, meaning managing all aspects of data acquisition, processing, outreach, and definition. This will include managing data curation work and monitoring its progress, supporting our data scientists as they work with data, and creating and facilitating data trainings to maximize data’s value to the organization. The project manager is responsible for developing and executing critical business guidelines for the sending and receiving of data to ensure that Mazda maximizes the value of our data assets.  He or she will work closely with our Enterprise Information Management (IT) team to ensure a smooth flow of data from ideation to execution.

As a project manager, this person will also be responsible for ensuring data science, big data, and statistical analysis projects are on track and delivered on schedule.  This include managing workload and milestones, identifying dependencies and roadblocks, setting objectives, providing feedback on performance, and keeping the business units regularly informed of project updates.

The Project Manager will also have responsibility for the day-to-day management of staff activities.


Major Areas of Responsibility: 

Data project management

Leading engagements with various Mazda operational units, management and execution of large cross-functional data projects in an agile setting.Develop and enforce (in partnership with purchasing) guidelines for utilizing analytics partners for the business.

 

Data Governance

Establish and maintain data governance working groups to assign accountability and ownership to data sources and definitions. Build and maintain a corporate “data glossary”

 

Team resource allocation

Working closely with team leader to assign resources to various projects to ensure timelines and commitments are met.

 

Data contract and partner relations

Manage all enterprise-wide data contracts and relationships. Work with data providers to continuously add value. Work with IT and the business units to quickly onboard new data sources and ensure they comply with current IT policy.

 

Continuous education and learning

Lifelong learning and continuous education.

Requirements

Education (Minimum):  

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree in a business-related function (MBA, finance) preferred.

Experience: 

  • 5 + years working in a data-driven setting, with direct experience managing large cross-functional team projects. Strong analytical background.

Training/Certification: 

  • certification in a project management methodology (Scrum, Lean, etc) a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Must have good knowledge of business analysis and a proven ability to interpret and act on quantitative findings.
  • Experience with at least one data handling platform (Power Pivot, Alteryx, SQL) and data analysis package (Tableau, Power BI) strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and a lifelong learner.
  • Great organization skills and ability to work with diverse teams.
