We are seeking a Data Analyst to join our growing Data & Insight Group, which is responsible for data analytics, data science and data engineering for all New York Times offerings, including the newspaper and The successful candidate will become a key partner to the NYT Global team as The Times continues to expand our journalism into new markets outside the US. You will work alongside a collaborative, cross-functional team of editors, product managers, designers, marketers and technologists.

The Data Analyst will help define and track key performance indicators for our global business, and generate insights within and across our target geographies, to inform editorial decisions, product enhancements and subscriber acquisition.

The successful candidate will be able to deliver A/B and multivariate experiments, design and automate reports, implement digital analytics tagging, master exploratory analysis and insight, all in close collaboration with partners in data analytics, data science and engineering teams.



  • Partner with global business and newsroom team members to understand their objectives, and apply data-driven approaches to engagement, acquisition and retention across all digital platforms.
  • Design, build and automate dashboards for the global team.
  • Implement web analytics solutions, train stakeholders in the use of analytics and reporting tools, and share insights from web analytics tools.
  • Use observation and analysis to develop hypotheses related to our global strategy and tactics, and partner with product managers, editors and marketers on the end-to-end process of test design, implementation and analysis.
  • Influence internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization to take action based on insights generated to seize business opportunities.
  • Document and communicate findings and insights to stakeholders across the company, including senior executives



  • 3+ years of relevant experience working in web / digital / mobile analytics or in web-based businesses.
  • 3+ years work experience using SQL is required.
  • 3+ years work experience creating reports and dashboards in Tableau, Chartio or similar.
  • 3+ years work experience implementing and reporting on Google Analytics.
  • Additional programming languages (e.g. Python, R, HTML, CSS) are a bonus
  • Experience in providing analytics to inform new product development and iteration
  • Experience with defining, implementing and analyzing A/B and multivariate experiments
  • Experience in applying multivariate statistics, including logistic regression modeling, to business problems or market research.
  • Ability to think strategically, analyze and interpret market and consumer information.
  • Excellent conceptual and analytical reasoning competencies.
  • Degree in an analytical field such as economics, mathematics, or computer science is desired. MBA is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work seamlessly with a cross-functional team of analysts, technologists, marketers and product managers.
  • A top-notch sense of humor.
