Senior Product Manager/Strategist, Data Capabilities Office, Research and Statistics Group - FRBNY

The Data Capabilities Office (DCO) is looking to hire a Senior Product Strategist to start-up a practice of design strategists that will support engagements across the Central Bank turning client requirements and opportunities into meaningful design solutions. Areas of focus will include user research, insight generation, facilitated problem-solving and the application of design thinking, which will result in applied design solutions benefitting a broad spectrum of Bank stakeholders from senior management to data analysts.

This role will contribute directly to the DCO’s goal in meeting the Central Bank’s objectives towards driving our strategy on data, elevating the capacity for connecting and synthesizing the increasing number and scale of disparate and complex informational sources, and creating insightful analysis.

The DCO sits in the Data & Statistics Function and is part of the Research and Statistics Group. The DCO is focused on 1) good UX design and optimization of business processes to create a premier user experience for those managing and working with data and 2) the art of the possible; driven by applying data science technologies and techniques to help the Central Bank derive insights from data. The broad scope of this role will provide the candidate with the opportunity to work on projects in support of monetary policy, financial stability, and supervision; working closely with economists, market analysts, bank examiners, risk analysts, and data analysts around the Bank the Sr. Product Strategist will facilitate ideation sessions, conduct user research and analyze results, develop story maps and user stories, and consult on the end-to-end product life cycle for new products, services, and capabilities.

The Sr. Product Strategist will work as part of a larger and growing team, with competencies in data usability, product management, data visualization, communication planning, advanced analytics, data science, and data curation. Successful Product Strategists will help establish a shared vision by building consensus on priorities leading to product execution. They can break down complex problems into steps that drive product development.

They have an innate ability to simplify complex and technical concepts and to plan, prioritize and seamlessly integrate all moving parts in order to release high-quality products. They bring a strategic perspective to projects as well as contribute hands-on in order to get things done.

This role requires a drive for continuous learning, commitment to action, an attitude that anything is possible and a relentless focus on bringing impactful products to the Bank. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in creating and executing a wide range of enterprise and consumer products.

 

Responsibilities

  • Define product vision, goals, and core user-needs leveraging design thinking concepts.
  • Lead new product development initiatives through building effective business cases that identify business value and recommend metrics to measure success at the product level.
  • Plan and execute research to develop a solid understanding of users, translating into personas, user stories and story maps.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to identify, clearly articulate, and prioritize scope and requirements and manage expectations.
  • Synthesize research findings and recommendations and partner with a Sr. Communication Planner to communicate.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver design strategy projects that require both creative and analytical thinking.
  • Provide thought leadership, best practices, and standards required to deliver effective solutions to our partners across the Bank.
  • Define and manage product roadmaps to realize business goals and strategies.
  • Work closely with Sr. Communication Planner on all aspects of a product launch.
  • Research, troubleshoot, diagnose, and recommend solutions to complex business and technical problems.
  • Participate/assist in end to end testing.
  • Stay up to date on design thinking and product management practices.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • 7+ years’ experience working in a strategic planning capacity at a firm where product/service strategies and innovation were a significant percentage of your time and focus.
  • Experience with Design Thinking & Lean Prototyping of a product.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner or equivalent certification
  • Proven track record of leading and delivering large and complex products and services.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and comfortable presenting (and interacting with) everyone from entry-level employees to senior vice presidents.
  • Ability to explain complicated or technical information in a simple way to non-technical audiences.
  • Extremely organized, practical, and continuously new ways to do things faster and better.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Collaborative working style, willingness to flex roles and responsibilities when needed to support larger team goals and outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of APIs and integrations.
  • Data-driven approach to understanding user behavior and discovering and evaluating product opportunities (Basic SQL and Excel skills to access and analyze data and build business cases).
  • Experience with JIRA.
  • Experience with a wide-range of CRM, and CMS tools.
  • Experience with the Financial Services Industry and regulatory requirements a plus.
  • Portfolio review on request.
