ChapinHall at the University of Chicago is seeking an individual to work on a team engaged in empirical, analytical and conceptual child and family welfare research. ThAssociate Researcher’s maicontribution to research projects is the management,linking, statistical analysis,and presentation of project data. The individual will participate in discussions regarding studdesign and methodology; develop and maintain programs that transform data into analyzable formats and/or that can be utilized for data analysis;and perform modeling and statistical analyses of data usingR, STATA, SAS, SQL,and/or other appropriate analytic software programs. The Associate Researcher will also participate in meetings witexternal stakeholders and write sections of research results for funders and publications.

The position will report directly to Brian Chor, Senior Researcher.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The primary responsibilities of the position areas follows:

 

  • Converts, merges and assembles large-scale data that often need to be cleaned for analysis for multiple projectsDevelops and maintains programs that transform data into analyzable formats and/or that can be utilized for data analysis, with a strong emphasis on generalizability and transparency.
  • Automate existing and emerging processes for importing, documenting,integrating,and updating data as well as to coding best practices such as code review and version control.
  • Performs modeling and complex statistical analyses usingR,STATA, SAS,SQL, and/or other appropriate analytic software programs under supervision.
  • Participates in discussions regarding studdesign and methods. Assists in developing study objectives,and designing sampling,randomization and data collection procedures to achieve study objectives.
  • Writes sections of research results for funders and/or publications, and may assist with report production activities,including proofing,formatting and creating tables and graphs.
  • Participates in meetings with external stakeholders and may present findings at meetings and/or conferences.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Master’s degree in data science, biostatistics, computer science,econometrics, statistics, or social science/policy with significant advanced coursework in statistics and programming OR a relevant bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of fivyears of relevant experience required.

Other Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ experiencworkinwith large administrative datasets.
  • Minimum of two years’ data analysis experiencrequired.
  • Advanced experience with R, STATA, SAS, SQL, and/oother appropriate program languages, preferably experience working in a Unix environment.
  • Ability to conduct data cleaning, quality check, and diagnose inconsistencies/accuracy of large-scale administrative data.
  • Strong interest in and aptitude for developing analytic skills for workinwith administrative data.
  • Strong background in statistical methodology.
  • Professional experiencwitcomplex data systems strongly preferred;experiencwith public sector administrative data and data systems.
  • Demonstrated capacity for taking initiative, problem-solving, and working in a collaborative research environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail with good organization skills.
  • Ability to translate and convey complex concepts and study findings in oral and written communications.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degreof initiative.
  • Demonstrated judgment and discretion in the handling of sensitive information.
