Job Description:

Under administrative direction, performs work of considerable difficulty with responsibility for the designing, creating, and managing data architecture and analysis, including determining how data will be stored, consumed, integrated, analyzed and used by different entities, as well as using or making meaning of such data thus achieving the Decision Center’s mission and purpose of significantly improving student outcomes through the use of data, applying the resources of ASU and significantly involving stakeholders.

 

Salary Range:

$135,000 - $165,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties:

  • Leads efforts to create a data infrastructure and subsequent analytic modeling that describe the current pre-K through employment education system and sub-systems.

  • Develops effective data architecture of the DC Ed Ex database that not only satisfy immediate project requirements but also provide a coherent, reliable architecture to help the Center grow and align to strategic vision.

  • Develops a long-term data utilization plan for the Center’s data and data system.

  • Develops and implements plans to use predictive modeling, trend analysis and other data analysis techniques to explore data and to answer specific research questions.

  • Promotes the use of shared infrastructure and applications with data partners to improve information flows.

  • Ensures that projects do not duplicate data or diverge from each other. Develops, uses and promotes the appropriate standards, security, privacy and governance policies.

  • Leads projects and works with teams to conduct the secure collection, cleaning, standardization, transformation and storing of data from various sources and creates and deliver simple, elegant solutions to complex problems within project deadlines.

  • Provides post-implementation and on-going support.

  • Develops an analytics data ecosystem in an immature data environment, and develops ongoing, incremental data architecture strategies that facilitate migration toward a mature analytics data architecture.

  • Translates business strategy and vision into a data strategy through partnerships with key stakeholders.

  • Utilizes effective project planning techniques to break down projects into tasks and supervises their accomplishment and ensures deadlines are met.

  • Prepares and oversees the preparation of reports, dashboards and presentations.

  • Collaborates with the team in order to improve the effectiveness of computational models through the use of data analysis and feedback from education stakeholders.

  • Assumes or coordinates other projects or duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field AND eight (8) years of experience in the area(s) of data architecture or database management, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience as a data scientist or similar position.

  • Experience creating models of complex systems.

  • Experienced in database development and architecture.

  • Experience in working with large administrative or other data sets.

  • Evidence of having a history of successful collaboration with other units or organizations.

  • Evidence of effective communication skills in writing, speaking and leading teams.

  • Experience in using statistics and data science for social good.

  • Experience in developing enrollment projections, models for retention purposes

 

Working Environment:

  • Develops Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%);

  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%)

  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%)

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
