Senior Data Scientist - Microsoft

The Cosine Developer Platform team provides components, tools and processes to enable developers to build great applications and experiences. Our Data Science team is looking for a highly motivated and passionate data scientist to apply scientific methodology to data to improve our developer offerings. We conduct projects that have business impact using statistical analysis, machine learning, data mining, data visualization, and more. As a Data Scientist, you will formulate approaches to solve problems using well-defined algorithms and data sources in the context of customer, engineering, and business needs. You will interpret the results of analyses, validate approaches, and learn to monitor, analyze, and iterate to continuously improve. You will engage with stakeholders to produce clear, compelling, and actionable insights that influence product improvements that will potentially impact millions of customers. You will also engage in the peer review process and act on feedback while learning innovative methods, algorithms, and tools to increase the impact and applicability of your results.


Additional Responsibilities Will Include

  • Executing end-to-end data science process, from understanding business requirements, data discovery and extraction, model development and evaluation, to production pipeline implementation
  • Manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources using a variety of tools and data analysis techniques
  • Defining business metrics and building analytics reports or dashboards to monitor progress towards goals
  • Communicating with technical and non-technical audiences on data insights through reports, presentations and visualizations
  • Using and promoting data-exploration techniques to discover new or previously unasked questions
  • Partnering with stake holders to translate open problems into impactful metrics and visualizations
  • Working with project stakeholders to understand and define requirements, deliverables and time frames
  • Defining and implementing methodologies and metrics that accurately quantify the value of improvements


Required Qualifications

  • Degree in in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or other quant-focused field
  • 3+ years' experience executing A/B experiments, machine learning, predictive analysis, exploratory data analysis, survey design and analysis, and other areas of data science
  • 3+ years' experience performing data analyses including applying statistics
  • Engineering experience using large data systems on SQL, Hadoop, Spark, COSMOS, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proficiency using tools like R, MATLAB, Python (for data science) and similar
  • Proficiency using one or more programming or scripting language like Python or C# to work with data or productize models
  • Experience working with product and service telemetry systems
  • Ability to balance data-driven decisions with intuition - logical skills and business sense
