Volvo Group Connected Solutions Innovation Lab is establishing a collaborative workspace in Silicon Valley and we are looking for a strong core team for that hub. Role Overview

The Senior Data Scientist we need is a technical expert who leverages their expertise to analyze large volumes of complex data and can create models that can be applied to challenging problems. The Senior Data Scientist will lead the development of novel algorithms and apply machine learning techniques to address critical business needs of the Volvo Group with the goals of improving customer productivity and creating new business opportunities. They will collaborate with the other team members in identifying, calibrating, and driving new opportunities within the advanced analytics and visualization area. The role requires an agile, networked way of working as well as an open mindset and passion to deliver value for our customers. For this team the focus is on getting stuff done, so we are looking for action oriented, curious and entrepreneurial individuals.

Core Responsibilities

  • Unleash the value of data
  • Work and experiment with state-of-the-art data processing, machine learning, and AI technologies.
  • Understand how analytics may/will transform industry dynamics
  • Use Data Science expertise to analyze large volumes of complex data, create models, and algorithms that can be successfully applied to challenging problems to address the needs of the Volvo Group
  • Champion new data-driven service innovation from idea generation to deployment
  • Generate content from the innovation projects for sharing knowledge internally


Required Competencies

  • Creativity in problem-solving
  • You have storytelling skills and the ability to explain complex topics in simple terms
  • Seasoned in coding, analytics tools, visualization tools, data access and collaborative work, GIS or spatial analysis/visualization
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and self-motivated
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate well with others in small, local teams and well as in globally distributed team settings
  • Strong business management, analytical, decisive, and action-oriented
  • Must possess the ability to work in a fast paced environment with high level of uncertainty
  • Proficient in English, both verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Ability to work with various departments and foster teamwork
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Gather and analyze information skillfully

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
  • Master’s Degree is a plus.

Experience Required

  • Ideally 5+ years of related work experience.
  • Experienced in performing analysis with large datasets
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, manage multiple clients, and provide consultative skills throughout the process.
  • Ideal candidate will be highly motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
