The Instagram Direct team builds the messaging service for the visual future, to strengthen relationships with the people closest to you through shared visual moments. With over 375 million monthly users, Direct is already one of the top global messaging services by number of active users. We also work closely with Instagram Camera, Stories and Live team to leverage the creative the tools and services they build.
Our team is building a standalone app for Direct to make it easy and fun to hang out with people. We seek strong iOS engineers with passion to ship highly polished products, great communication skills, strong product intuition about what may work or not, and ability to propose new product ideas.
The position is full-time and based in our San Francisco, CA office.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our product and design teams to build and maintain features for the Direct App.
  • Leveraging our data analytics tools and user/product research, set the direction and goals for team, and create multi-month roadmap considering project impact, product quality, and engineering efficiency.
  • Independently tech lead group of engineers through evaluating tradeoffs of decisions and drive team to iterate quickly while keeping high quality code and product.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to team members, and influence team to strive for better engineering and product quality.
  • Proactively drive technical direction such as improving performance, preventing issues, reducing app size/battery consumption/data usage, modernizing codebase, and collaborate with other teams.
  • Build highly polished user facing products.

Requirements

Minimum Qualification

  • B.S. or M.S. Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years in software development experience.
  • 7+ years experience building iOS applications both user interface and system levels.
  • Experience with both building apps from scratch as well as working on large scale apps.
  • Experience understanding and debugging large code bases.
  • Experience with iOS SDK performance tools and optimization techniques.
  • Leadership experience in multiple teams.
  • Architecture experience.
